Pumpkin Patch

Halloween is almost here which means...pumpkin time!  We put on our raincoats (it's Oregon in Autumn...of course we did!) and headed to the local farm.  I was a little nervous getting on the bull at first, but Hank showed us how a real cowboy takes the reins.  

We took a hayride out to the pumpkin patch where we got to look around for the perfect lil' pumpkins.

There was a cart for pumpkin rides -

But I found an even better way to ride in style!

What We Wore to the Donut Shop

This weekend brought us the first signs of summer - 80 degree weather!  What better way to celebrate than a walk to the donut shop?!  Ms. Mommy woke up early so we could ride in our wagon to downtown and enjoy a little start-of-summer treat.  

Nothing says fabulous like matching your donut to your accessories!

 Earl reached an instant sugar-high that he got to work off outside the rest of the day.

Even Hank got in on the action!  Here's to more sunny days and trips to the donut shop!

Huckleberry Pancakes

Ms. Mommy may have brought up her lack of culinary abilities in previous blog posts. I'm here to set the record straight: Ms. Mommy is a genius in the kitchen... when it comes to make huckleberry pancakes using Bisquick mix.

Mmmm.... pancakes. Massive shout out to my Bubbe for providing the frozen huckleberries. It is the gift that keeps on giving. Oh, and for anyone reading this who is unfamiliar with huckleberries (I'm still having trouble processing this, as it is the state fruit of my Bubbe's birthplace, but apparently not everyone has gotten to experience this delectable treat), the berries are small, round, and look like blueberries. The variety we enjoy has a more tart flavor.

Return of America's Next Top Preschool Model

Ms. Mommy was out snapping some fashion pictures of us this morning when we Earl decided to be a little diva.  Lucky for us, Hank was there to step in and show us some of his expert America's Next Preschool Top Model poses.

Guest Post: Frozen Yogurt Pops

Hi there FF, it's Hank! Today I'm doing a guest post for ya'll (don't mind my southern drawl- my Grandpa B just moved back from the South and has been down to our place for a visit).

Today I'd like to share a delicious recipe that anyone's parents should be able to follow. No, seriously, even Ms. Mommy was able to handle this one, and food preparation is #1 on her list of "Dreaded Household Tasks". This is my all-time favorite Summer snack.

Frozen Yogurt Pops

Ingredients:

• 1 8-oz. container of your favorite flavor of yogurt
• Plastic push-pop molds (my mom bought ours from Amazon), or you can use small paper cups and wooden popsicle sticks (available in craft stores)
• Optional: fresh berries, frozen berries, honey, or anything else you'd like to flavor these with

1. Pour yogurt into push-pop molds or paper cups. Fill them almost to the top.
2. If using push-pop molds, place the lid on. Easy-peasy.
3. If using paper cups, cover the top with plastic wrap and poke a hole through it to insert a popsicle stick stick straight up in the center of the cup.
4. Put the cups in the freezer until the yogurt is frozen solid.
5. Remove the plastic wrap, peel away the paper cup, and eat your pop!

It's that easy! Here I am enjoying the fruits of Ms. Mommy's labors.

Mmmmm! Fresh blueberry puree and vanilla yogurt, frozen to perfection.

Outfit of the Week

Everyone has a fantasy.  Some are simple - Ms. Mommy wants to drink a cup of coffee in the morning without any of us demanding her attention.  Some are ridiculous - Auntie Amelia wants to see the Beatles in concert circa 1963.  Some are virtually impossible - Mine is to choose Hank's clothes for him.  For any of you who have ever tried to tell a stubborn three year old what to wear, you'll know where I'm coming from.  Try doing it without being able to talk and having to resort to merely throwing the clothes within reach at him.  Impossible!


If dreams came true, here is the first thing I would pick out for Hank.  I'm not being too overly ambitious, it's quite his style.  Well, it would be if his style ever branched out beyond sweatpants.  I'm loving the bright color pops.  Tea Collection has a great selection of graphic tees that are fun by still stylish.  The overshirt by Gap has great embroidery that keeps with the fun jungle vibe and really brings out the color pops. Sigh.  Someday Hank will thank me for this.

How to Rock the Shades

Petunia and I like to give Hank a hard time about his often dubious wardrobe choices, but we really do think he's a cool guy. And every now and then our big brother pulls off a move like this:

Mommy was trying to take some photos of Petunia in the new onesie our G.G. (that stands for Great Grandma, for all you un-hip baby hipsters out there) appliqued for her, when Hank slipped on Daddy's old sunglasses and  got right in front of the lens. Now that is how you rock your style. It's all about the confidence, baby!

What Hank Wore To The Park

Today we're taking a look at one of Hank's past fashion choices.  Unfortunately, it's not far enough in the past for me to be over it yet.  Hank's going through (let us pray) a phase where he's insisting on picking out his own clothes.  Since my big brother's a three year old genius, he's also learning about matching colors.  Matching is important, but Sesame Street really ought to be simultaneously teaching lessons on coordinating colors. 

If I could get Hank to listen to just one thing I say, I'd tell him it's not okay to match the same color clothing on top of each other.  He doesn't care about matching his shoes, but pants and shirts he throws a fit about! Boys!

Since we're on the subject, can we also discuss his color choice for the day?! Grey? Look at that blue sky! And sweatpants and a polo?!

Hank gets 1 style point for being able to climb so high on the jungle gym.  Earl insists on giving him 2 because, well, look at how high Hank's climbing!

What We Wore To The Library

Today was one of my favorite days- Library day! Ms. Mommy took us on a special outing to our local library for story time. Then, because the sun was shining and it was a balmy 54 degrees outside, we drove to a nearby park. I must say, I was one of the best dressed toddlers out there (never mind the bark chips and grass stains I acquired). 

What a dapper young fellow I am! Sweater and pants by The Children's Place, onesie by Carter's (it reads "Hug Magnet"), shoes by Wee Squeaks. Petunia was crabby, but still looked chic in a new Gymboree shirt. Her jacket and pants are by Carter's, sandals by Stride Rite (they used to be mine), and socks by Old Navy (they make the best ankle socks!). I'd hate to leave out Ms. Mommy and big brother, Hank, so here they are in their library/park outfits.

Ms. Mommy could have used some accessories, and those jeans need washing, but I give this outfit a B+. And Hank, for once, looked acceptable in the outfit he picked for himself this morning.
